Early Morning Workout


I got in a quick workout this morning.  My PT told me that if I was going to work out, to keep it to 10-20 minutes on the bike.  She'd prefer 10, but she knows I probably can't physically limit myself that much, so she'll allow 20 on LOW, and the second I start to feel pain, I have to stop.

I followed her advice to the letter.  I had to drag myself off the bike at the 20 minute mark.  I did a little over 5 miles, and I wanted to do at least 10.  It killed me to have to stop, and I kept going back in forth in my head because I wasn't in any pain at all - probably because I was on the high bike that my PT told me to use instead of the low bike I used last time that is more bum friendly. 

I was doing 4 minute miles on the low bike, and 3.5 minute miles on the high bike, so that's a plus for it too.  She really doesn't want me on the treadmill yet, but it's okay for me to walk a little bit - I need to practice walking with my left food pointing straight.  I have been compensating for my injury by walking with my left foot out to the side a bit, so after the bike, I walked just a quarter mile on the treadmill, very slow, and after just 5 minutes, my knee started to be a bit sore, so I stopped right away.

I'm home now, icing my knee, and then I'm off to work.  I'm finally feeling MUCH better.  What a relief.  Although, now that I can breathe better, and I feel like a human again, it's going to be really hard to hold myself back from doing a hard workout.  I just have to keep reminding myself that I can't let my short term goals get in the way of my long term success.  That's just dumb. 

I'm going to work a full day in the office for the first time in weeks, and as long as that goes well, I hope to go swimming tonight as well - as long as my knee isn't in any pain.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. This will only set you up for success in the long run
